“I just realised I was making a lot of unforced errors and I was like ‘stay in there, keep going’ and that’s what I did,” said Serena after her victory, adding, “This is definitely the best match I’ve played in this tournament so far and I had to do that going up against the number two in the world, so that’s what I did and I’m excited.
“Last year my coach Patrick had a little talk with me on how I had to do better on my defence.”
She has not added to her Grand Slam tally since beating her sister Venus in the Australian Open final in 2017.
Earlier in the day, Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka advanced to the semi-finals of the ongoing Australian Open after overpowering Taiwan’s Su-Wei Hsieh on Tuesday.

Jay Shah, Sourav Ganguly Matter in Supreme Court: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s case in the Supreme Court has been adjourned until March 23 in lieu of the availability of lawyers. Both President Sourav Ganguly and Se Jay Shah and others affected by the Justice Lodha authored Reforms in Cricket report, are hoping for a big relief from the apex court so that they can continue in their positions without anxiety.

The Supreme Court had listed the BCCI cases under Civil Appeal No. 4235 of 2014 (BCCI versus the Cricket Association of Bihar and others), which included the BCCI petition to relax the cooling-off period, for Tuesday, February 16 in Court No.8 before Justice S.Ravindra Bhat. and Justice L. Nageswara Rao

Soon after the BCCI AGM and election in 2019, the Indian cricket board filed a petition seeking amendments to the apex court-approved constitution and registered with the Registrar of Societies in Chennai.

In a sudden turn of events on Saturday (February 13) the BCCI requested the Supreme Court to adjourn the hearing by two weeks.

Representing the BCCI, M/S Lawyer’s Knit & Co., addressed a letter to The Register, Supreme Court of India, saying: “ The BCCI has filed an application for the direction being IA No.499330 of 2020. The Counsel appearing on behalf of the BCCI is in difficulty and therefore the appellant is seeking an adjournment for two weeks in the above-mentioned matter.’’. The said letter is in possession of InsideSPORT.CO

The copy of the letter to the Registrar, SCI, has been marked to 60 odd advocates among whom the most prominent one is Mr. P. S. Narsimha, Sr. Advocate, Supreme Court and Amicus Curiae in the particular Civil Appeal.

On January 20, 2021, the Apex Court had asked the Counsel of applicants in the particular case to share their thoughts in a short note within a week to the Amicus Curiae.

“I am in Manipur now. I have not seen the letter,” said Mr Narsimha to InsideSport.co.

ISSF World Cup:India will not take part in the ISSF World Cup in Changwon in April because of South Korea’s mandatory two-week quarantine rules, which will come in the way of the shooters’ training.
The tournament, recognised by the International Shooting Sport Federation, is scheduled to be held in the Korean city from April 16 to 27.
“Our shooters are not going to be participating in the World Cup in Korea as there is a 14-day mandatory quarantine. That means they will not be abe to train for that period,” a top official of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) told PTI on Monday.

Before that, there is a shotgun World Cup slated in Cairo from February 22 to March 5.

The 34-year-old now has six five-wicket hauls and fifties in the same matches. He is ahead of indian players Kapil Dev and Ravindra Jadeja with a half-century and five –for in the same Test.

v England at Visakhapatnam in 2016
v SL at Colombo SSC in 2017
v England at CHENNAI in 2021
It was Ashwin’s first Test fifty since 2017
Ashwin is currently equal with former New Zealand great Richard Hadlee.  England all-round Ian Botham is on top of the charts and Shakib Al Hasan is placed second.
Hitting a fifty & taking a five-fer in the same Test most times

Yuvraj Singh in Trouble: Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh has landed in trouble. Haryana Police has registered an FIR against the double World Cup winner flamboyant cricketer over a ‘distasteful’ and ‘disrespectful’ comment against Dalit society during an Instagram discussion with Rohit Sharma in 2020.
The case was registered against Yuvraj Singh on Sunday in the Hansi police station of Hisar. Police have registered the FIR under Sections 153, 153A, 295, 505 of IPC, besides sections 3 (1) (r) and 3 (1) (s) of SC/ST Act. The FIR comes 8 months after an advocate from Hisar filed a police complaint against the cricketer for his ‘casteist comments’.
Yuvraj Singh in trouble: What exactly Yuvi had said ?
Yuvraj allegedly made the ‘casteist remark’ during an Instagram live session with India opener Rohit Sharma in June 2020. Yuvraj had made the remark when talking about India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s TikTok videos.
Yuvraj had said: “Yeh b***gi log ko kaam nahi hai yeh Yuzi aur isko (Kuldeep).”
“Yuzi ko dekha kya video daala hai apni family ke saath. Maine usko wahi bola ki apne baap ko nacha raha hai, pagal toh nahi hai tu,” Rohit replied.
The World Cup-winning former all-rounder had issued an apology, saying he never believed in disparity.
Yuvraj Singh had taken to Twitter and apologised for “unintentionally hurting sentiments” of a particular society of people.
“This is to clarify I have never believed in any kind of disparity, be it on the basis of caste, colour, creed or gender. I have given and continue to spend my life for the welfare of people. I believe in the dignity of life and respect each individual without exception,” Yuvraj Singh said in his post.
“I understand that while I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood, which was unwarranted. However, as a responsible Indian I want to say that if I have unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments or feelings, I would like to express regret for the same.”

Fans entry in IPL can bring cheer and moolah for IPL Franchises

Superb show by the West Indies team, beat Bangladesh by 17 runs to seal series 2-0

Transfer Tracker: Michigan QB Dylan McCaffrey เข้าสู่พอร์ทัล

West Indies beat Banglandesh in 2nd Test – Wins Series 2-0 : Rakheem Cornwall’s four-wicket haul helped West Indies beat Bangladesh by 17 runs and whitewash the series on Sunday. He bowled 30 overs, almost unchanged and bargain four wickets to give his team a memorable win. The win is huge as Windies also did not have their regular skipper playing as well and still have scripted history. Tamim Iqbal had put Bangladesh in a commanding position as he was going great guns. But the game turned on its head as wickets kept tumbling one after the other.
The Tigers were outbatted in the first Test and have been outbowled in this one. A lot of food for thought for them and so much to discuss on the drawing board. But for the Windies, hope their Test stocks see a rise from here on. Windies all over the world would rejoice this massive win as Bangladesh have been a tough cookie at home in the recent past. And to quote the statistics, this is only the second loss for Bangladesh at Dhaka since 2015. Phenomenal series indeed.
A double hundred in a run chase on the final day. A close chase in the second contest. It has been dramatic all the way through and both the results fell in favour of the braver team. Bangladesh’s timidity on so many occasions didn’t help them wrestle control of the series. First the Aus-Ind Test series and now this, Test cricket indeed has been the thrill-a-minute ride of late.
Taijul Islam bagged four wickets, Nayeem Hasan picked three, Abu Jayed pocketed two, while Mehidy Hasan took one wicket as Bangladesh bowled out West Indies for mere 117 in second innings in the second innings of the second Test in Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. The visitors have set modest 231-run target for Bangladesh with 1.5 day remaining in the Test.

Kraigg Brathwaite, Winning skipper: I would say this is a team effort. The One day team didn’t do well. But we had some plans and came on top. I know my skill with the ball. Just wanted to keep it tight. Coming over here with all the protocols in place, it is huge. Very thankful for this opportunity. Am very proud of the boys. It means everything back home. The fans will be proud. We just stuck to our plans and proved them wrong. I know what Mayers can give us. I have known him from primary school. Moseley will also give us runs soon.

Nkrumah Bonner, Man of the Series: Actually the conditions are similar. The only difference might be that it keeps a little lower here. I talked to senior guys and they told me to occupy the crease for as long as I could. I took my time in the middle and remained patient.

Rahkeem Cornwall, Man of the Match: It was a good performance. The whole team had great energy from day 1. The team management backed us as well. Once the conditions allow you to spin it, I backed myself to spin it. You need to be patient and bowl consistently. I practice hard in the mornings with my slip catching. I just back myself that when the ball comes to me, I will catch it.

Mominul Haque, losing captain: When you lose, it is always disappointing. We did have some positives. Mehidy was exceptional with the bat and the ball. Taijul bowled really well. Tamim and Mushfiqur got fifties as well. When Tamim was batting, we thought we will easily win it. But we lost wickets in the middle period and then Mehidy tried hard but fell short. Shakib gives us two options. So, one player wouldn’t have been able to fill his big boots.

Australian Open 2021 Day 7: Djokovic overcomes injury to beat Raonic, will face Zverev in quarterfinals; Simona Halep, Serena Williams and Osaka advance to last eight

Transfer Tracker: Michigan QB Dylan McCaffrey เข้าสู่พอร์ทัล

Australian Open 2021 Day 7: World number one Novak Djokovic advanced to quarter-finals beating Milas Raonic 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. The Serb came through a tough examination of his fitness to beat the Canadian powerhouse.
Djokovic, who suffered a side muscle during a five-set win against Taylor Fritz on Friday, show hints of discomfort on the way to becoming only the second player to reach 300 Grand Slam match wins.
Fourteenth seed Raonic had never previously taken a set off Djokovic in three previous Grand Slam meetings so when he snatched the second set a surprise looked possible.

But the Serb, bidding for a record-extending ninth title in Melbourne, responded by raising his game and improving his record over Raonic to 12-0.

Djokovic will now clash against seventh-ranked Germany’s Alexander Zverev for a place in the semi-finals.
Australia Open 2021: Simona Halep, Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka advance to quarterfinal
World No.2 Simona Halep has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. She overpowered Iga Swiatek after losing the opening set. Halep came from behind to register 6-1, 6-4 victory against the Polish. The Romanian will next face Serena Williams in the quarterfinal round.
In other fixture, sixth-seeded Alexandar Zverev came out on top of D Lajovic after a scare in the second round. The German professional won the match 6-4, 7-6 and 6-3. The German got most of his first serves in and racked up 44 winners to dominate the 30-year-old Lajovic throughout the match.
After losing the first set, Lajovic came back strong and gave a tough fight in the second set as it went into the tie-breaker but his efforts went in vain as the German claimed it by 7-6(5). In the third set, Zverev claimed the match and cruised to the next round of the tournament. He will meet the winner of Djokovic vs Raonic match in the quarterfinal round.
Earlier today, Serena Williams has secured a place in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open 2021 after her win against seventh seed A Sabalenka. The 39-year-old veteran came back after losing the second set. The score ended 6-4, 2-6 and 6-4 in favour of 23 times Grand Slam champion.
Serena emerged triumphant in the first set and she displayed her trademark game to not give Sabalenka any chance in the first set. The American took the first set 6-4.
In the second set, Sabalenka managed to change her fortunes around and she gave Serena no respite. Sabalenka managed to gain a 5-1 lead in the second set and Serena faced an uphill task. In the end, Sabalenka managed to take the second set 6-2.
In the third and final set, Serena had managed to take a 4-2 lead, but Sabalenka came back strongly and the scoreline was levelled at 4-4. In the end, Serena managed to maintain her composure and she sailed into the quarter-finals.
The 39-year-old Serena needs one more major win to equal Margaret Court’s record Grand Slam tally. She has not added to her Grand Slam tally since beating her sister Venus in the Australian Open final in 2017.
Title favourite and 3rd seed Naomi Osaka also came back from the brink to defeat Gabrine Muguruza of Spain at the Australian Open 2021 after she shocked Osaka in 3 sets thriller. Osaka was down a match point in the 3rd set but pulled back to beat the 14th seed Spaniard 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 to make it to the Aus Open 2021 Quarterfinals.
Osaka will now take on giant killer Su-Wei Hsieh of Chinese Taipei in last 8 battle. The 35-year-old Hsieh has made it to the Aus Open Quarterfinals for the first time. The Japanese professional has gone on to win the title, every time she has reached quarter-finals of a Grand Slam.
In another contest, Su Wei Hsieh continued her dominating run in the Australian Open defeating 20th seed Marketa Vandrousova in straight sets. She will be next face Naomi Osaka in the quarter-final.
Meanwhile, A Karatsev has stunned 20th seeded Felix Auger Aliassime to enter the round 8 of the Australian Open 2021. He came back after straight-sets losses to win the thrilling five sets contest. The scorecard ended 3-6,1-6, 6-3, 6-3 and 6-4 in favour of the Russian.
