IND vs ENG | Was important to stay along with the team when it’s playing well, says Kuldeep Yadav

Hunter Miska ถอนหายใจอย่างสิ้นหวังและจับเป้าหมายของ Jeff Carter

Kuldeep Yadav has stated that he was happy being a part of the side when the team was performing well but admitted that there was some pressure not playing a Test for two years. Kuldeep further added that the team wasn’t worried after losing the first Test as they knew they could comeback.India registered a comprehensive victory against England in Chennai to square the series going to the Ahmedabad leg of the series, but this became even sweeter for Kuldeep Yadav, who picked up a couple of wickets late in the innings. In the entire Test, Kuldeep bowled only 12.5 overs and majorly acted as a holding bowler to Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel. However, Kuldeep doesn’t have any regrets and stated that it is important for him to stay along with the team when it’s playing well and he believed his time would come. In the meantime, he was discussing the technicalities with Ravichandran Ashwin and how he could better himself as a red-ball bowler.”It was important to stay along with the team when it’s playing well. My job was to keep control, contain runs from one end, and chip in as one of the three spinners on this track. We have been planning for this series for a long time, right from the Australia series. There was some pressure (on himself), having not played a lot of Tests in the last two years. Was discussing a lot with Ashwin regarding bowling in the right areas and putting the pressure on the batsmen,” Kuldeep said in the post-match presentation.India have been an unstoppable force at home in the last one decade with only one loss in their previous 36 games before the juggernaut stopped in Chennai by England. It must have been an eye-opener but Kuldeep revealed that the side was not lost on confidence after the opening game as they believed they could bounce back.”We weren’t worried (on losing the first Test), we have been in such situations before, in my first series (in 2017), we had lost the first Test against Australia in Pune. We’re relaxed, we knew we had the team to come back and perform. Everyone was just focused on doing well in this Test,” Kuldeep added.Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | Don’t see any reason why Washington Sundar should be replaced, asserts Deep Dasgputa

Hunter Miska ถอนหายใจอย่างสิ้นหวังและจับเป้าหมายของ Jeff Carter

Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar has come under scanner after a poor first Test with the ball but former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgputa has thrown his weight behind the youngster. He, however, also added that both Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are quality options for the second Test.Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem and all-rounder Washington Sundar have been criticized for their role with the ball in first Test after a lackluster performance. Not since Kevin Pietersen’s epic 186 in Mumbai in 2012 has there been many instances when Indian spinners have been hammered as brutally as the Chennai Test. Barring R Ashwin, who fought back well in the second innings and ended with nine wickets in the game, the other two spinners were taken for a ride, which completely worked against India.Shahbaz Nadeem conceded 233 runs for his four wickets in the first Test and gave runs at 3.80 per over in first innings and 4.40 in the second innings respectively. On the other hand, Washington Sundar, fresh from his heroics at Gabba, was also exposed, as he went wicketless in the game and was dealt with as ease as if a part-timer that too at his own home ground. However, Washington had a great outing with the bat in the first innings as he scored a brilliant half-century and would have even got to his century had he gotten more support from the other end. Former Indian wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta has batted for the all-rounder, stating that he doesn’t see any reason to drop the 21-year-old.“Honestly with how Shahbaz bowled in the last Test match I think there will be replacement. Washington Sundar was played more as a batsman who can bowl somebody who can bat at number 7 and he did a wonderful job, especially in the first innings, the way he batted. So I don’t see any reason why Washington should be replaced unless it’s a strategic call,” Dasgupta said on Sports Today, reported HT.As per reports, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are likely to come in place of Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Nadeem respectively. The cricket pundit, however, feels both are quality options but reckons only one of the two might play.”I do see a replacement but the question is who. I think both Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel are quality choices. Axar would have been your first choice even in the first Test match but unfortunately, he was injured. Axar could be a very, very good choice and so will Kuldeep but I think Axar because left-arm orthodox spinner brings in more control, that’s the reason why he might be preferred and it’s a straight swap, Axar coming in for Nadeem (both are left-arm spinners). I don’t see both of them playing together and I guess Axar will be a choice,” Dasgupta said.Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

Reports | No drastic difference in pitch for 2nd Test; Kuldeep and Axar likely to play

Hunter Miska ถอนหายใจอย่างสิ้นหวังและจับเป้าหมายของ Jeff Carter

There will reportedly be no drastic difference in the pitch for the second Test at Chepauk and there are high chances of Axar Patel making his Test debut with Kuldeep Yadav returning to the side. After losing the first Test by a massive margin of 227 runs, India will look to bounce back. With the new stadium in Ahmedabad likely to have some assistance for pacers, at least, if one has to take the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament into consideration, India could be in trouble if they don’t win the second Test. The newly built stadium will be hosting the third Test which will be a day-night affair and also the last Test, which will be a normal red-ball game. Taking about first Test, it favored the team winning the toss greatly as there was quite a bit difference in the pitch on first two days and from third day onwards when India batted. Overall, the pitch was flat and slow, didn’t have much carry and was anything but sporting as the curator had promised ahead of the series. And as per reports, there won’t be drastic difference in the pitch though the curator might leave a bit of grass for better carry and bounce. But an out and out turner is highly unlikely.“What Virat must have meant was that the pitch lacked carry. It had turn and bounce — he himself got out in the first innings to one that did both — but the ball was stopping on the batsmen from Day 3, which didn’t help Indian batsmen at all,” a source in the know told TOI.Two players have come under scanner greatly after the first Test loss, Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Nadeem. Both the spinners copped heavy pasting at the hands of the Englishmen who treated the duo with disdain as the spinners were quite average. And with Axar Patel fit and likely to return, Shahbaz Nadeem is likely to be dropped with Sundar’s place also also not certain. It also brings Kuldeep Yadav, who was set to play the first Test too if Axar had not got injured, into the picture.“His (Washington) primary job is to bowl off-spin where he was a bit of a letdown. If Axar comes in, he can bat at No. 7 and the management may look to try a wrist-spinner,” the source added.“While Kuldeep will bring the ball in to the right-hander, Chahar will take it away. It will be entirely Virat’s call who he thinks is the right fit,” the source added. Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | If India lose second Test, Virat Kohli should give up captaincy, feels Monty Panesar

Hunter Miska ถอนหายใจอย่างสิ้นหวังและจับเป้าหมายของ Jeff Carter

Former English spinner Monty Panesar feels that Virat Kohli will be under pressure for his leadership while saying that if India lose the second Test, then the skipper should think of relinquishing the captaincy. Panesar further stated that India were really defensive in the first Test.India lost four games on a trot when Virat Kohli led the side, which brought the debate squarely on him. Given the way the Indian team performed in the first Test in Chennai, questions were asked if Kohli would be better placed playing purely as a batsman where he has a lot to offer to the Indian team. With Ajinkya Rahane just being off a brilliant series as captain, following a three-game unbeaten run with a depleted side, he has become a favourite among many fans and experts. Monty Panesar, who first came face to face with Kohli during the 2012 series that India went on to lose subsequently, feels that Kohli should leave the captaincy duties if India lose the second Test.”Virat will be under pressure. This is an important series for him. If he loses the second Test, I think he should give up his captaincy. Because India will be down 2-0 in the series, and they should change the captain. Virat desperately needs a win or a draw. If he doesn’t, it could be his last match as captain,” Panesar told TimesofIndia.com.India picked Shahbaz Nadeem over Kuldeep Yadav despite the presence of a flatter bowler like Washington Sundar in the opening Test and even though the Jharkhand spinner picked up four wickets across two innings, he was conceding a lot of runs and bowled a nine-ball over due to his excessive overstepping. Panesar stated that India should’ve picked Kuldeep Yadav ahead of Nadeem in order to provide the bowling unit a more attacking edge.”I think India went defensive in their selection policy. They should have picked Kuldeep Yadav in the first Test. He should have been included as a second spinner in place of Shahbaz Nadeem on that track. It was really surprising to see Virat not go for Kuldeep,” Panesar said.”That was not a good call. I think Kuldeep should have been an automatic selection. England haven’t really practiced against a Chinaman bowler. So, Kuldeep would have done wonders for India. Nadeem wasn’t sharp and probably was the weakest link in the team. There was no need to play Nadeem. And third and final point is India badly missed and struggled without Ravindra Jadeja. India were defensive in their approach,” Panesar further added.Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | We didn’t put much application as a batting unit; focus is always on long partnerships, states Virat Kohli

Hunter Miska ถอนหายใจอย่างสิ้นหวังและจับเป้าหมายของ Jeff Carter

After another loss in the first match of a Test series, Virat Kohli has stated that India didn’t put much application as a batting unit in the first innings. He also raised the question about the state of the SG ball while adding that there was no real debate over the management not picking Kuldeep. On the back of a stressful series against Australia, where they won 2-1, India were put under the pressure on day one, in unfavourable conditions for bowlers. Right from the very first over of the day, the Indian team were put under the pump by the visitors, aided by Joe Root’s double century, which blew them apart. While India were expected to put a similar show with the bat in their first innings, they conceded a huge 241-run lead. Indian skipper Virat Kohli showed his displeasure over the application shown by the batting unit in the first innings. He added that the plan was to bat long in the first innings, chasing England’s total. However, at the same time, he reinstated milestones is something that they don’t really think about but instead focused on building long partnerships. “I think the Test probably shifted in their (England)’s favour when we batted in the first innings because we were looking to bat long and we couldn’t do that. There wasn’t much application shown by us as a batting unit, something that we take a lot of pride in. Look these milestones (100s) and all we don’t think about too much. We just look at building partnerships and put the team in good positions,” Kohli told pressers in the post-match press conference. “Someone has scored a century in the last five matches doesn’t matter to us but if people do put partnerships that help us win, that’s what matters. For us, it about trying to win a game of cricket and if we need to do play solid cricket, we should be able to do it. There’s no one way about it. As a batting unit, our focus would be on long partnerships.” he added.Kohli also reinstated that the state of the pitch didn’t help India on the first two days, with the deck being flat and slow. However, he stated that England’s first innings was the major differentiator between the two teams. “Look at the reality was that pitch was flat and slow. I’m not telling it as an excuse but that was the reality on the first two days of the game. It was only after third day when the pitch started to change. Before that, it was a very flat and slow pitch. Look, they got big runs on board in the first innings. We have to understand that’s the dynamics of the sport.”While Ashwin earlier raised complains over the quality of the SG ball, Kohli also expressed his surprise over the destruction of the ball completely on the first day of the five-day encounter. “The quality of the ball (SG) as well wasn’t something that we were pleased to see, that has been an issue in the past as well. The ball was destroyed in 60 overs, it’s not something that you are ready to experience as a Test side. England played better cricket than us.”The 32-year-old also stressed that the choice of picking Shahbaz Nadeem over Kuldeep Yadav is for variety, something that he revealed that they would lack in Kuldeep’s inclusion. “Not really (Kuldeep for Shahbaz) when we are playing two off-spinners, we needed variety, hence the decision to pick Shahbaz Nadeem. There was never a second doubt on the decision to pick Nadeem over Kuldeep. Going forward, we will think about what best we can do and then work on the team combination,” he concluded.Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

Why the Chennai Test has shown that India’s ‘Jaddu-obsession’ is unhealthy

Hunter Miska ถอนหายใจอย่างสิ้นหวังและจับเป้าหมายของ Jeff Carter

England won the toss in the first Test of a tour they were expected to lose 4-0 and batted and batted and batted – for 190 overs. And scored 578. Understandably, the Chepauk curator has received plenty of flack, but we look at why the first innings exposed a bigger issue at hand for the hosts. What’s the issue?India’s obsession to field a Ravindra Jadeja clone. Ever since India realized that Ravindra Jadeja’s batting was reliable enough for him to warrant a spot in the Top 7, they’ve deployed a five-bowler strategy. The wicket-keeper, Jadeja and Ashwin – in no particular order – slot in at 6, 7 and 8 respectively, giving the side the flexibility to play three more specialist bowlers pertinent to the conditions. In the absence of Jadeja in the first Test in Chennai, the management looked to replicate the same tactic by installing a Jadeja prototype but, erm, let’s say it did not go down too well. The bowling, ultimately, lacked bite and the hosts ended up conceding 578, with the fourth and the fifth bowlers – Sundar and Nadeem – returning combined figures of 2/265 off 70 overs. The wicket, indisputably, was flat, but the 190 overs demands introspection over India’s tactic. How is the Jaddu-obsession detrimental to the team?Logically, one would think playing five bowlers in comparison to four is bound to yield the side better results with the ball, but that is a bland assumption devoid of key intangibles. What ultimately matters is if the bowlers picked possess the quality to derail the opposition. In the absence of Jadeja, India were keen to blood-in a like-for-like replacement, hence the eagerness to field one of Washington Sundar or Axar Patel. Both Sundar and Axar are finger-spinners capable of batting at #7, and both offer the three-dimensionality that Jadeja brings to the table. But while it is true that they bring the same package as Jadeja, there is daylight in the quality of the primary skill (bowling, in this case) between Sundar/Axar and Jadeja. The Saurashtra all-rounder is often celebrated for his three-dimensionality, but people tend to conveniently forget that he is, behind Ashwin, the second-best spinner across the past decade. Completely keeping his batting aside, Jadeja averages 24.32 with the ball, and this number comes down to a ridiculous 21.06 in 33 Test matches at home. Just to put into perspective how good these numbers are, Ashwin, the greatest off-spinner since Muralitharan, averages two more (23.14) at home. By selecting a ‘Jadeja prototype’ India are fitting someone in the side who does the same things, albeit much worse, but are simply not doing what they should be doing: picking a spinner who offers the same threat with the ball. Sundar’s outing in the first innings is a classic case in point – he filled the Jadeja-shaped void in the side in terms of the package, yet ultimately failed at his primary job, which is to threaten with the ball. He is by no means to blame for it, for he’s far away from being a Test-level spinner, but him being picked to serve as a third spinner means that he needs to provide a cutting edge with the ball; and not just serve ‘handy’ owing to his package. This would also have held true to Axar had he been picked. Axar, too, is light-years away from being amongst the Top 5 spinners in the country and was, as revealed by Kohli himself, only considered because of India’s Jaddu obsession. This is not to deviate from the fact that India ultimately found themselves in the position they did because of the lacklustre display of the designated second spinner, Shahbaz Nadeem. Yet these kinds of situations are precisely why you pick a fifth bowler (in this case, a third spinner) – to make up even if one of the premier bowlers have an off-game. Nadeem had a performance to forget, yes, but it was exacerbated by the fact that Sundar was incapable of filling-in and masking it, ultimately defeating the purpose of having a fifth bowler. “This is just the three-spinners scenario; a Jadeja-prototype can still play if India field three pacers.”Unless the team plays in a SENA-like wicket which is a paradise for pacers, this statement won’t hold true. India, particularly of late, have been drifting towards accommodating three seamers at home but this does not change the fact that the key to success lies in the hands of the spinners. From January 1, 2015 to up until the start of the ongoing Test, Indian spinners had taken almost twice as many wickets (330) as the pacers (166) in home games. This emphasizes the importance of the role the second spinner has to play, even in a three-man pace attack.  A Jadeja-prototype might be a flexible option but that player will not be of great use to the side unless he is as good as Jadeja himself with the ball. Does it mean India should just pick their five best bowlers? This can, of course, always be experimented with, but it will leave the side with a worryingly long tail. For instance, as soon as Axar injured himself, India could have gone ahead with Kuldeep, Nadeem and Ashwin as their three spinners but that would have left them with no half-decent batsman after Pant. Ashwin had a wild day out in Sydney but in his last 17 Tests at home, he averages 11.93 with the bat with no fifty-plus scores. Hence they had to make a compromise, and it came in the form of them leaving out Kuldeep (you could argue the Nadeem selection also had some Jaddu-obsession attached to it, for he is also a left-armer). So, what is the solution?Simple: in the absence of Jadeja, India either need to revert back to a four-bowler + 1 batting all-rounder strategy or ensure that, barring Ashwin, the second spinner they pick is the best spinner at their disposal, treating the No.7 slot as an all-rounder. In Chennai, Kuldeep, despite being a bigger threat than Nadeem, was overlooked because he turned the ball the same way as both Ashwin and the Jaddu prototype Sundar; as it turned out, Sundar and Nadeem’s lack of dexterity made the decision look ridiculous. Cracks can be papered over on turning tracks but, as was the case in the first two days of Chennai, on flat wickets it will be skill – and not the package – which will help punch holes in the heart of the opposition. Particularly with India completely reverting to preparing ‘we-will-outbat-you’ kind of flat wickets, it would become increasingly difficult for the side to bowl quality oppositions out at home with just one world-class spinner.  A four-bowler + 1 batting all-rounder (who here replaces the Jaddu prototype) strategy is less-ideal but it would, nevertheless, solve any kind of concern with regards to a long tail and enable the skipper to field the second spinner simply based on merit, not worrying about the individual’s other credentials. With Pandya unfit to bowl and with Vihari nursing an injury, though, this option, one imagines, would not be feasible for the side in the last three Tests. Why the Jaddu-obsession is unhealthy in the long run For more than one reason, India’s obsession with finding the perfect like-for-like replacement for Jadeja is unhealthy. One, as previously discussed, is the compromise in the drop in quality of bowling but secondly, and most importantly, the long-term ramifications it could have on the kind of expectations the management have from spinners. The selections of Sundar and Axar now, and Jayant Yadav previously, are clear indications of the management’s affinity for slower bowlers who can contribute with the bat (largely because most of the seamers can’t hold the willow). “Bowling combination we’ll try to give us as many options as possible, along with guys having the ability to contribute with the bat. That’s been the pattern for success for us in home conditions over the last few years and that continues to be the case this time around as well. The combination we’ve played in the past where guys can bowl and bat is something that will be at the forefront of our plans,” Kohli had said a day before the commencement of the first Test.Grooming all-rounders is healthy but to discard spinners ‘only’ because they cannot contribute with the bat is preposterous.India, currently, have as many as two back-ups for Jadeja, but are at a point where they have little clue as to who their best spinner apart from Ashwin and Jadeja is. Kuldeep was supposed to be the answer but his progress has stalled, and this has a lot to do with the fact that he continues to be overlooked simply because he does not tick other boxes unrelated to his bowling. If India are to not find themselves in a dire situation post the Jaddu-Ash era, they need to start investing in their best spinners. And by investing, it means not only identifying who those players are, but giving them the opportunity to develop and learn their trade while the big fishes are still around, and not just throwing them in the deep end when the time arrives. As things stand, they are not doing it, and it could have long term consequences.Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | Doesn’t make any sense to play two off-spinners in Chennai, remarks Harbhajan Singh

Hunter Miska ถอนหายใจอย่างสิ้นหวังและจับเป้าหมายของ Jeff Carter

After a late injury to Axar Patel, India opted to go with one left-arm spinner and two off-spinners, a decision which hasn’t gone down well with Harbhajan Singh. Irked by Kuldeep’s omission, Harbhajan has remarked that Kuldeep’s presence in the playing XI would have given a bit of variety. As it stands, India have opted to go with two off-spinners, in the form of Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin in the ongoing Chennai Test, omitting Kuldeep Yadav. While it is learnt that the decision was made after a last-minute injury to Axar Patel, it hasn’t left the former Indian players happy. Several players have flocked since the team was announced, to criticise the management of favouring the Chennai all-rounder over Kuldeep Yadav. Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh too has joined the list, remarking that it doesn’t make any sense to play two off-spinners at the Chepauk, while still having Kuldeep on the bench. He also added that it was understandable for him why the management insisted with Shahbaz Nadeem when Axar Patel was deemed injured. “It was astonishing for me to see Kuldeep Yadav not get a chance in Team India’s playing XI despite him being in the squad. I can understand that since Axar Patel is injured, Shahbaz Nadeem came in as a like-for-like replacement. But it doesn’t make sense to play two off-spinners in Chennai,” Harbhajan told Sports Tak, reported HT.Since the Sydney Test, where Kuldeep picked up a fifer, the unorthodox left-arm spinner has been sidelined for the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja in the past. This year, the list has been extended to Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Nadeem, who have edged past the uncanny spinner. While India looked toothless on the first day, Harbhajan pointed out that Kuldeep could have made a difference. “Kuldeep Yadav’s presence would have added a bit of variety to this Indian bowling attack. In the last two Tests that Kuldeep Yadav played, he had picked up five-wicket hauls. So I am completely baffled by his exclusion,” Harbhajan asserted.”This is also not a great sign for his confidence because it demoralizes you even further when you are a part of the squad but still can’t make it to the playing XI.”Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | Rishabh Pant will start ahead of Wriddhiman Saha, confirms Virat Kohli

Hunter Miska ถอนหายใจอย่างสิ้นหวังและจับเป้าหมายของ Jeff Carter

Virat Kohli confirmed on the eve of the first Test that Rishabh Pant, who starred in the series win in Australia, will keep wickets for the side and added that the management will look to give him a long rope. Kohli also hinted that India will look to field bowlers who can contribute with the bat. After spending the first two years of his career as an ‘away specialist’ Rishabh Pant is all set to get an extended run in the Indian Test team as a full-time wicket-keeper as Indian skipper Virat Kohli, ahead of the first Test, confirmed that the young Delhite will start ahead of Wriddhiman Saha.Pant ended the Australia series as India’s highest run-getter and famously starred in the historic chase at Gabba, but there were still doubts about the 23-year-old’s place in the starting XI owing to India historically preferring to field the better keeper at home. Kohli revealed that the side wants to see Pant build on his confidence and asserted that the youngster will improve in all departments as he starts to play more games.“Rishabh will start. Rishabh will take the gloves tomorrow. He’s had impactful performances in Australia and he’s in a good space – we want him to build on this. Along with him improving all aspects of the game, which will happen with more game time and the more confidence he gains playing those games,” Kohli said in the pre-match press conference on Thursday.“That’s how we look at Rishabh. He’s come along very nicely after he came to Australia. He wasn’t a part of the white-ball squads but he kept working hard on his fitness and his game and realized the importance of putting in that work. He got his results eventually.”The Indian skipper further stated that, owing to him being an x-factor player, the management will continue to back Pant in the years to come. Kohli hailed Pant’s talent and claimed that the southpaw has the ability to become a ‘consistent match-winner’.“All of us were happy to see, because he is someone we have backed quite a lot. He’ll be continued to be backed because he is an impact player. And along with his hardwork  he can definitely be a consistent match-winner for India, and someone that the opposition would be wary of.”While Pant had a series to remember, that was not so much the case for Kuldeep Yadav, who exited the shores of Australia not playing a single Test despite injuries gallore in the visiting camp. Kuldeep, in fact, last played a Test two years ago in Sydney and has since seen himself warm the bench continuously. When asked about the left-arm wrist-spinner, Kohli admitted that Kuldeep went through a tough time, but revealed that the 26-year-old will once again be in the team’s plans heading into the home season. Kohli expressed admiration for Kuldeep’s improved fitness levels and claimed that the left-arm wrist-spinner, currently, is bowling as well as he ever has.“It’s a delicate balance we need to have – understanding what the teams goals are, at the same time communicating accordingly to the individuals as to where their game stands, what we’re looking to do as a team, what are the teams plans and where do they feature in the team’s plans. Someone like Kuldeep has not had much game time in the longest format for a while now. New Zealand the conditions were not obviously suited for playing three spinners, and something that he understood as an individual. “But now that the home season has started, he will be in the scheme of things and he will be in the team’s plans. Kuldeep is someone who has got a lot of skill. He understood that there were areas in his game he had to work which he has since worked on – I see him fitter, I see his bowling has improved much more than what it was before and he has been adding to his skill sets as well.”However, Kohli’s kind words for Kuldeep might not guarantee a starting spot for the wrist-spinner on Friday as the Indian skipper insisted that the team would prefer to pick bowlers who could bat. Axar Patel and Washington Sundar, both of whom are in the squad, are all-rounders who can both bat and bowl thus it could very well be the case that the duo might get the nod over Kuldeep for the first Test.“Bowling combination we’ll try to give us as many options as possible, along with guys having the ability to contribute with the bat. That’s been the pattern for success for us in home conditions over the last few years and that continues to be the case this time around as well. The combination we’ve played in the past where guys can bowl and bat is something that will be at the forefront of our plans.”Kohli, along with the other players and support staff, had a chance to inspect the Chepauk pitch today, and the Indian skipper described it as a “typical Chepauk wicket”. The 32-year-old stated that he expects the Chennai wicket to be a good-for-batting track that will start bringing spinners into play as the game progresses.“The pitch is a normal chepauk pitch – quite a nice batting track with spinners getting assistance eventually. But the track is good enough to help fast bowlers stay in the game as well. So it is generally a good cricketing wicket, something that we saw in the last series that we played against England four years ago. The pitches were quite good, and they were good for cricket overall. The matches were not won inside two or three days, they went the distance most of the time.”Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .
