India pull out of ISSF World Cup owing to quarantine rules

India is not going to participate in the ISSF (International Shooting Sports Federation) World Cup in Changwon, due to South Korea’s mandatory 14-day quarantine rule. India is also set to host a World Cup later on, from March 18 to 29, at the Dr. Karni Shooting Range, in Delhi.Shooting has been India’s forte in multi-sport events in recent times, and the country is expecting a few medals from the discipline in the upcoming 2021 Tokyo Olympics as well. With few months left for the mega event to kick-off, the shooters are in a race against time to prepare for it, while the upcoming ISSF World Cup was a major part of it. But, as per the recent reports, India will not take part in the meet in Changwon, due to South Korea’s mandatory 14-day quarantine rule, which will not allow the athletes to train during that period.”Our shooters are not going to be participating in the World Cup in Korea as there is a 14-day mandatory quarantine. That means they will not be able to train for that period,” said a top official of the (NRAI) National Rifle Association of India, as reported by PTI.The ISSF World Cup, in Changwon, which is scheduled to be held from April 16 to 27, is a combined tournament, featuring shooters from rifle, pistol, and shotgun events competing for medals. Sanjeev Rajput claim pole position in men’s 50m Rifle 3 positions trials

Indian shooter Sanjeev Rajput has claimed the top position in the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions T4 national selection trial. Elavenil Valarivan won the T4 trials with a score of 251.6 in the women’s 10m Air Rifle T4, while Yashaswini Deswal finished as the best in the women’s 10m Air Pistol T4 trials.Veteran shooter Sanjeev Rajput, already a Tokyo Olympics quota holder claimed added yet another feather to his cap, by winning a Gold medal in the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions T4 national selection trails in New Delhi. With the win, the two-time Olympian won three of four trials held this year, having qualified for the finals in each of them.The shooter also his best score of the four qualifying trials – 1182 to advance to the eight-man final in pole position. Following him closely behind was another Tokyo Olympics holder Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar – with a score of 1181. Rajput also stormed through the finals, with a season high score of 463.1 to outclass second-placed Niraj Kumar, who registered a score of 459.6.Elavenil Valarivan, the current world number in women’s 10m Air Rifle was also in top form, as she won the T4 trials with a score of 251.6, having topped the qualification round with a score of 632.1, just 1.9 shy of the world record. Divyansh Singh Pawar creates new world record in National Selection trials

Shooter Divyansh Singh Pawar struck a world record with a score of 253.1 in the men’s 10m Air Rifle T4 event of the National Selection Trials. Saurabh Chaudhary (men’s 10m Air Pistol), Chinky Yadav (women’s 25m Air Pistol), and Tejaswini Sawant claimed top spots in their respective events.Storming into the limelight during the 2018 ISSF Junior World Cup, in Suhl, Divyansh Singh Pawar made it big by bagging a quota in the upcoming 2021 Tokyo Olympics. It was on Wednesday that the 18-year old smashed a world record with a score of 253.1 in the men’s 10m Air Rifle T4 event of the National Selection, in New Delhi. Having qualified as third with a score of 629.7, Divyansh outclassed a bunch of young shooters to win the final on the last shot, edging past another Tokyo-bound athlete – Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar. Both of them played out a neck-to-neck encounter, with them tied at the 23rd shot with scores of 232 each, while both registered 242.2 by the end of the 24th shot. It was the last shot that the current world number one proved his mettle, by scoring a massive 10.9 to get past the world record with ease. Aishwary was also impressive with his shot, registering 10.4, missing out on the world record of 252.8 by just 0.2 points.
