“I just realised I was making a lot of unforced errors and I was like ‘stay in there, keep going’ and that’s what I did,” said Serena after her victory, adding, “This is definitely the best match I’ve played in this tournament so far and I had to do that going up against the number two in the world, so that’s what I did and I’m excited.
“Last year my coach Patrick had a little talk with me on how I had to do better on my defence.”
She has not added to her Grand Slam tally since beating her sister Venus in the Australian Open final in 2017.
Earlier in the day, Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka advanced to the semi-finals of the ongoing Australian Open after overpowering Taiwan’s Su-Wei Hsieh on Tuesday.

Serena Williams Matches Incredible Grand Slam Feat After Victory Over Aryna Sabalenka at Australian Open 2021

Transfer Tracker: Michigan QB Dylan McCaffrey เข้าสู่พอร์ทัล

Serena Williams is chasing her 24th major crown at the Australian Open 2021. She recently upset the 7th seed of the tournament, Aryna Sabalenka, making it through to the quarterfinals. Interestingly, this is the 54th time that the tennis queen has reached the last 16 in a Grand Slam tournament. Moreover, with this win, Serena has equaled the record for most-quarterfinal appearances made in a major tournament with Chris Evert. The former American professional and an 18-time Grand Slam champion’s record is finally being shared. Before this, Williams leveled with another legend of the sport, Martina Navratilova at the US Open last year. She is 13 and 5 semifinal appearances behind both of them, respectively. Serena becomes a 13-time QF entrant at the Australian Open The 39-year-old American has one of the most illustrious careers in the sporting world. With more than two decades of sheer dominance, Serena has set and broken many records. Undoubtedly, the best of Serena also comes out where it matters the most, in major tournaments. The 23-time Grand Slam champion is one glory behind, to equal the record for all-time Grand Slam titles with Margaret Court. Behind them are Martina Navratilova (53), Steffi Graf (42), and Venus Williams (39). Of her 54, Serena had made 13 quarterfinal appearances at the Australian Open. Her most QF appearances came on the home turf, at the US Open (17). In Wimbledon, Serena has reached the last 16 an astonishing 14 times and 10 times at the French Open. Apart from this, Williams is also only one final away from matching Chris Evert’s record of appearances in a Grand Slam final. Currently, the retired American stands at 34 whereas Serena is on 33. Transfer Tracker: Michigan QB Dylan McCaffrey เข้าสู่พอร์ทัล

Canadian tennis star Bianca Andreescu has shared a heartwarming note on her Twitter handle, detailing her struggle with injuries and how blessed she feels to be competing again. The 2019 US Open champion, who returned to action at the Australian Open after a long injury lay-off, crashed out in the second round after falling to a straight-set defeat to Taiwanese Hsieh Su-wei. Andreescu crashed out in Round 2 of the Australian Open Her injury battle and eventual triumph came as a sobering experience for the Canadian who rose to dizzying heights in 2019, winning the US Open, Indian Wells, and Rogers Cup all in one year. Andreescu’s dream run helped her move 147 points in the WTA standings. However, just when she was poised for the next big leap in her career, injuries threatened to pull her down. A knee injury forced her to withdraw from the Shenzhen WTA event in the fall of 2019, and she had to rise from “many tears shed alone during sleepless nights” to return to the swing of things. Reflecting on her protracted injury battle, Andreescu wrote, “Life is the most amazing thing ever, yet, it can get so tough. That’s the beauty of it, they say.” Crediting all those who helped and supported her through the dark days, the Canadian said she’s “beyond grateful” to be back in play “after so long”. In an inspiring message to her fans and followers, she wrote that one should never feel lonely in times of distress and turn their “struggles” and “heartbreak” into “something beautiful”. “For anyone struggling (if this resonates with you)…know that you’re not alone, you are loved and you matter,” Andreescu wrote. She said one should have the mindset not to feel weighed down by negativities all around and focus on what one can control. The Canadian said it always helps to draw strength and support from the loved ones when the chips are down. Speaking to reporters after her second-round exit at the Australian Open, Andreescu said the saddest part was that she gave it her all and yet finished on the losing side. Novak Djokovic Fans Receive Positive News Amid Injury Concerns at Australian Open 2021

Transfer Tracker: Michigan QB Dylan McCaffrey เข้าสู่พอร์ทัล

World No.1 Novak Djokovic had cast doubts over his further participation after his epic five-set third-round victory at the 2021 Australian Open. Djokovic suffered an abdominal muscle tear during the third set against Taylor Fritz, which hampered his movement. Post his third-round victory, Djokovic seemed dejected on having encountered a serious injury and was worried whether he would be able to recover timely. Tennis – Australian Open – Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Australia, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic during his third round match against Taylor Fritz of the U.S. REUTERS/Kelly DefinaDue to injury, Djokovic didn’t train on Saturday and raised doubts over competing in the next round. The defending champion underwent medical tests yesterday and waited for the reports before taking a decision. Novak Djokovic ready to compete However, in what can only be described as a magnificent development, Djokovic will play in his fourth-round match against the Canadian, Milos Raonic. After consulting the physiotherapists at the tournament, Djokovic was given the green light as they seemed optimistic about the minor injury. The physios felt confident that Djokovic could play tonight and would be at the receiving end of the best treatment possible to get ready for the match. Withdrawing from the tournament would have been devastating for Djokovic since he has won a record eight titles at the Australian Open. But having not practiced over the last two days, Djokovic will find it slightly tougher to battle against the hard-hitting Raonic. The duo has faced off 11 times against each other, with Djokovic having a flawless 11-0 head-to-head record. Djokovic last played against Raonic in the final of the 2020 Cincinnati Masters and won the match despite losing the opening set. Tennis – Australian Open – Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Australia, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic reacts during his third round match against Taylor Fritz of the U.S. REUTERS/Loren ElliottInterestingly, the duo locked horns in the quarterfinals of last year’s Australian Open, a match in which Djokovic triumphed in straight sets. However, it cannot be said whether Djokovic will be able to compete without any restriction to his movement. Nevertheless, the No.14 seed Raonic is at an advantage, of which he should extract the maximum benefit by returning well to break Djokovic’s serve.

The Austrian star fell victim to the Bulgarian star today, losing 6-4 6-4 6-0, in a match that lasted for two hours.  The match began with Dominic serving and he took a 1-0 lead. In the fourth game of the opening set, Thiem struck first blood and took the early break. However, Dimitrov had other plans and struck right back, taking the next four games in a row and put himself in the driver’s seat. He eventually sealed the first set 6-4 in his favor.  Tennis – Australian Open – Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Australia, February 14, 2021 Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in action during his fourth round match against Austria’s Dominic Thiem REUTERS/Asanka Brendon RatnayakeDuring the set, it was Thiem’s unforced errors that hampered his chances. The Bulgarian star broke back the very next game and consolidated it by holding serve the next game, to level the set at 3-3. In the ninth game, Grigor sensed an opportunity and broke Dominic again in the set, this time putting him in firm control as he served the set out in the next game, 6-4.  Tennis – Australian Open – Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Australia, February 14, 2021 Austria’s Dominic Thiem reacts during his fourth round match against Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov REUTERS/Asanka Brendon RatnayakeAfter 1 hour and 40 minutes, the Bulgarian was one set away from causing an upset at the Australian Open. “Hadn’t Reached My Peak”: Serena Williams Reflects on Her Tough Win Over Aryna Sabalenka at Australian Open 2021

Transfer Tracker: Michigan QB Dylan McCaffrey เข้าสู่พอร์ทัล

Serena Williams had a tough victory over Aryna Sabalenka in the fourth round of Australian Open 2021. She reached a record-equalling 54th Grand Slam quarterfinal and is en route to a record-equaling 24th Grand Slam. In her post-match interview, Serena revealed how she handled big points and kept herself motivated to win. “I felt like even games that I lost, I was so close to winning. Not all games, but probably most of those games. I just needed to play better on the big points. “I knew that I could. I still hadn’t reached my peak. I was like, Okay, Serena, you got this, just keep going.” Serena Williams of the U.S. in action during her fourth-round match against Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka. REUTERS/Loren ElliottSpeaking of her injury, Serena revealed that she was playing carefree for most of the match. Serena has been dealing with an Achilles injury for a while, and it was troubling her later in the 2020 season. “I do get a lot of balls back when I need to. Yeah, I didn’t think about my Achilles. It’s so good to not think about it…it’s been a problem actually since 2018, so…I just never want that problem again. It feels really good to just play and to run, to not feel that” Serena Williams vs Aryna Sabalenka: First Set goes Serena’s way Sabalenka started the match better than Serena. The Belarusian didn’t allow Serena any loose balls and quickly put the American under pressure. But Serena navigated her way through the tough games and put up her fight. At 3-3, there was the first breakpoint for Sabalenka, but she couldn’t convert it and Serena took the lead at 4-3. The first set was evenly poised, and both the players had great rallies. When Sabalenka was trailing at 5-4, she had a great rally against Serena where the American showed great defense. Serena saw her first breakpoint and set point at 5-4. But Serena needed a second opportunity to take the first set, 6-4. Woeful set for Serena Simply said, the second set was woeful for Serena Williams. She was broken in the first game itself. And with Sabalenka earning a second break, Serena found herself 3-0 down in the second set in just 17 minutes. Serena got a break back in the subsequent game to open her second set 1-3. But Serena’s first serve percentage dropped, and she failed to hold a third consecutive game and trailed 4-1. From there, Sabalenka quickly finished off the set, 6-2. Serena Williams seals her place in record-equaling Australian Open quarterfinal Serena massively improved in the third set. She fended off Sabalenka’s advances to take a 4-1 lead. But Sabalenka didn’t let it go and a blip from Serena saw Sabalenka level the match 4-4. Sabalenka was level with Serena in terms of winners and unforced errors. But trailing at 5-4, Sabalenka had a few unforced errors and Serena won the third set and match, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. “Probably Going to Smash Me”: Hsieh Su-wei Wary of Naomi Osaka Challenge at Australian Open 2021

Transfer Tracker: Michigan QB Dylan McCaffrey เข้าสู่พอร์ทัล

High on belief and punching way above her weight in the women’s game, Hsieh Su-wei has opened up on her quarter-final meeting with World Number 3 Naomi Osaka at the Australian Open on Monday. The 71st-ranked player caused one of the biggest upsets of the tournament by dumping 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu out of Melbourne Park and will have little to lose going into the last-eight tie. Osaka a “very good player”, says Hsieh Su-wei Speaking to reporters ahead of the showdown on Monday, Su-wei lavished praise on her Japanese opponent, calling her a “very good player”. Though struggling with her English, she left little doubt on how she rates her more illustrious and accomplished rival ahead of the last-eight battle. Tennis – Australian Open – Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Australia, February 10, 2021 Taiwan’s Su-Wei Hsieh in action during her second round match against Canada’s Bianca Andreescu REUTERS/Jaimi Joy“Anyone play her, they will get troubles,” was her short but loaded statement on her opponent’s game ahead of the quarter-final clash. However, she was quick to add that while Osaka will try to overwhelm her with her signature power tennis, she will focus on her strengths instead of worrying about her opponent. “She probably going to smash me on the court. I try to play my game, do my job, see what happens,” the Taiwanese said in her broken English. Hsieh Su-wei says she will back her strengths against Naomi Osaka in the QF While she out-muscled her opponents in previous rounds, the Japanese had to dig deep in her come-from-behind win over two-time Grand Slam champion and last year’s Australian Open finalist Garbine Muguruza on Sunday. Muguruza was up 5-3 and on match point in the deciding set when Osaka scripted a remarkable comeback story. Su-wei, on the other hand, had a comparatively easier ride into the last-eight on Valentine’s Day as she made short work of Marketa Vondrouska on the way to recording a 6-4, 6-2 win. As their head-to-head record bears evidence, the Japanese has not had it easy against Su-wei on hard courts. Osaka holds a 2-1 lead over the Taiwanese in three head-to-head meetings at hard-court events, with all matches going to three sets. Though unfancied, expect the Su-wei to give Osaka a run for her money as the two battle it out for a place in the last-four on Monday. The 2015 Australian Open quarterfinalist Nick Kyrgios got knocked out of the season’s first Grand Slam event, losing to Austrian star Dominic Thiem in the third round. Nonetheless, the Australian player entertained fans thoroughly during his short stint at the Australian Open this year.   After his exit from the singles category, Nick took part in the doubles event too. He partnered with compatriot and friend, Thanasi Kokkinakis. They won their initial match against Lloyd Harris and Julian Knowle in straight sets. However, they lost their second-round match today.  Tennis – Australian Open – Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Australia, February 12, 2021 Australia’s Nick Kyrgios reacts during his third round match against Austria’s Dominic Thiem REUTERS/Jaimi JoyKyrgios mocks Novak Djokovic’s celebration at Australian Open 2021 As the players stepped out onto the court today, Nick continued his love-hate affair with Djokovic. Upon arriving on the court, Kyrgios was seen mocking Novak’s ‘cringeworthy’ celebration, which he does after he wins his match. Both players have continued their war of words during the tournament this year. Nick has termed Novak a ‘tool’ and even went as far as terming him a ‘strange cat’.  Tennis – Australian Open – Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Australia, February 8, 2021 Serbia’s Novak Djokovic celebrates winning his first round match against France’s Jeremy Chardy REUTERS/Loren ElliottDjokovic even stated that he doesn’t respect Kyrgios off the tennis court, to which the Australian star took offense. During the pandemic, Novak organized an exhibition tournament, which drew criticism due to the timing at which it was conducted. Kyrgios at that time voiced his opinion, disagreeing heavily with the Serbian superstar.  Reflecting back to the Australian Open 2021, Djokovic won his third-round match against Taylor Fritz on Friday. During the match, he tore his muscle close to his rib cage. After solidifying an initial two-set lead, the American tennis player came back into the match, taking advantage of the Serb’s condition.  However, Djokovic, being the player he is, found a way to shrug off his pain and recorded the win eventually, stepping up his game in the deciding set. “Makes Me Calm and Confident”: Serena Williams Opens Up on Sister Venus’ Support at Australian Open 2021

Transfer Tracker: Michigan QB Dylan McCaffrey เข้าสู่พอร์ทัล

Slam Queen Serena Williams has opened up on how she draws inspiration from elder sister Venus Williams’ presence in the stands when she is battling it out on court. The elder Williams was spotted willing her younger sibling on as she fought off a determined challenge from World Number 7 Aryna Sabalenka on Sunday. Williams received support from sister Venus Williams from the stands at the Australian Open on Sunday After losing the opening set in the highly-anticipated pre-quarters clash, the Belarussian stormed back into contention after breezing through the second. However, bringing all her experience to the fore, the 23-time Grand Slam champion recovered to take the final set and the match 64, 2-6, 6-4. Speaking to reporters after sealing a berth in the last-eight, Serena revealed that the presence of her sister brings a calming influence to her game and gives her the belief to come out of tight corners in a contest. The 39-year-old added that Venus’ voice is, perhaps, the only ones she actually hears in play and it has the power to help through difficult phases in a match. Serena Williams says Venus Williams’ voice is one of the only ones she hears in play “I know when I hear her voice, it makes me calm and confident,” Serena said, adding, “There’s just something about it that makes me feel really good.” A year older than Serena, at 40, Venus fell to a straight-set defeat to Italian Sara Errani in the second round after recording an impressive 7-5- 6-2 win over Belgian Kirsten Flipkens in her opening tie. Tennis – Australian Open – Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Australia, February 14, 2021 Serena Williams of the U.S. in action during her fourth round match against Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka REUTERS/Asanka Brendon RatnayakeHowever, putting aside the disappointment of her exit in a tournament she has never won in numerous attempts, Venus put her lung power to good use from her stands as she willed her sister on during the tricky clash against Sabalenka. The elder Williams came close to lifting the title in 2017 but ran into her in-form sibling who beat her hands down to win her seventh Australian Open title and her career’s 23rd, going past Steffi Graf’s haul of 22. Serena is bidding to end her three-year wait to add to her Grand Slam tally, which would put her on level with the legendary Margaret Court’s career Grand Slam haul of 24, the highest across the men’s and women’s fields.
