India vs England Day 2 – England have got 555 on the board and more importantly have worn the Indian bowlers down on the second day of the first Test in Chennai. The visitors won a vital toss and ensured to make it count. They have mentally pushed Virat Kohli’s India on backfoot. Captain Joe Root led from the front. He out on a masterclass on the first day and continued it today. India tried everything – turn, bounce, pace, cutters – but Root was relentless and he got to break records for fun in Chepauk.
India did make England for runs early in the day but as the ball got old, runs also started flowing in. Shahbaz Nadeem and Washington Sundar had a better day with the ball than on the first day. Ishant was outstanding with his control. Ashwin pushed his body to the limit, but England managed to see off tough phases, answered the questions and broke all hurdles on the way.
England have got India exactly where they wanted. They will look for quick runs and pass the baton to the bowlers. The pitch is surely slow, and there was turn and bounce. So it is natural to expect India will adapt.
But it’s a tricky Day 3 in store for the hosts. There could be quick runs if the ball-pitch isn’t doing much and Anderson-Archer-Stokes won’t be easy with the reversing SG ball. The Indian bowlers would literally demand the batsmen to bat at least five sessions so they get a good amount of rest.
