Ind vs Eng 1st Test: five on-field rivalries to watch out for in Chennai Test : The India-England series is one of the most talked-about rivalries in cricket history. The tour may not be as famous as Ashes, but since the inception of the IPL, the competition has reached another height. Unlike the pre-IPL era, where players were unfamiliar with the Indian turf, they are now aware of conditions in India. Despite this fact, India has dominated the England batsman and utilised the sub-continent conditions to their full advantage. The sledging may no longer be of the level that used to be in the last decade, but the on-pitch rivalries are set to continue in the upcoming Test series. Take a look some of them:
Ind vs Eng 1st Test 1st rivalries – Virat Kohli vs James Anderson:
The Indian captain has faced difficulties to face the England legendary bowler. Anderson will look to continue his dominance against Kohli in the upcoming Test series. The 38-year-old has dismissed the modern master five times. If the England players had managed to hold on to Kohli’s catches, the numbers tally would have surged to 8 or 9.
Ind vs Eng 1st Test 2nd rivalries – Joe Root vs Ravichandran Ashwin
The England skipper is in red-hot form. He must be eyeing to repeat his recent success. Root managed to score over 400 runs in the last two Tests for the Three Lions in sub-continent conditions. On the other hand, Ravi Ashwin will look to stop Root from scoring big. India’s lead spinner created a lot of problems for another batting great Steve Smith in their recently concluded Border-Gavaskar tournament.  The 34-year-old has dismissed Joe Root twice in previous encounters.
Ind vs Eng 1st Test 3rd rivalries – Cheteswar Pujara vs Stuart Broad
Cheteswar Pujara has amassed over 6,000 runs in 81 Tests at an average of 48. Meanwhile, Stuart Broad is an experienced England bowler with over 500 wickets. Over the years, the latter has dismissed Pujara four times, leaking 162 runs off 350 deliveries. Stiff competition is expected at the battleground.
Ind vs Eng 1st Test 4th rivalries – Ben Stokes vs R Ashwin
The world No.1 Test all-rounder Stokes has scored 4,428 runs from 67 matches. On the other hand, Ravichandran Ashwin has scalped 377 wickets in 77 games.
Ashwin has dismissed the England all-rounder for a record seven times in three-Test series. Stokes has scored 150 runs off 384 deliveries by the Indian spinner.
Ind vs Eng 1st Test 5th rivalries – Joe Root vs Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah, who will be playing his first Test in India, is a threat with the new ball regardless of the conditions. The 27-year-old knows how to set the batsmen before surprising them with a slow Yorker and picking their wickets. Bumrah has dismissed Root four times across all formats. If England loses early wickets, Root has to pass the Test in the upcoming fixtures.
